Small Groups

Bible Study

Go Deeper into Knowledge and Faith small group meets Wednesdays 10:30 until noon at the church using the lectionary selected Bible readings for discussion. Each meeting is unique so that participants may attend as their schedule permits.

Tuesday Evening Small Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings in the homes of members and friends. Visitors are cordially invited.

Book Discussion Group
This group meets monthly for a lively discussion and good fellowship. The book selections range from current best sellers to the classics, and includes works of both fiction and non-fiction. The group plans its readings at least one month in advance.
Chancel Guild
This group coordinates decorating activities for the sanctuary and chapel.
DayTrippers
This popular group travels for day trips to a wide variety of destinations such as Frankenmuth or Shipshewana.
First Fun
Focus is on fun for all ages. Activities are generally, but not always, done in the great outdoors.
Fine Arts
This committee brings various performing and visual arts into the church.
Food Bank
Volunteers help to bag groceries for distribution to those in need.
Gardeners
Dedicated to beautifying the church grounds with flowers and other plantings. Suggested for anyone who likes to plant seeds, pull weeds and have fun.
ACTION of Greater Lansing
An interchurch group that works toward improving lives in our community by advocating changes in public policy.
Habitat for Humanity
First Church, together with other churches, works with Habitat for Humanity to build “simple, decent, affordable houses” alongside the people in need.
History Committee
Gathers and catalogs First Church memorabilia in the History Room with the guidance of a professional archivist.
Movie Discussion Group
Looks at the themes of religion, morality and social concerns found in new and older films. Participants watch the movie on their own and then join the group for a meal and discussion.
New Dimensions
Comprised mostly of “boomers”, this group gathers about once a month for a TGIF format of fun, food and fellowship.
Presby Parents
A fellowship of families with small children. Activities and events are planned for 6-8 times throughout the year.
PresbyPedalers
An active group for those who like to ride bicycles, usually a ride of 10 or so miles.
PeeWee and Junior Basketball
Opportunities for kids, helpers and adult coaches to have excellent team experiences.
Salad Luncheon
This community event occurs at First Church each October and May.
TLCs
Our widows and older single women go out to lunch together each month.
TTF (Twenties, Thirties, Forties)
A small group of adults in our 20s, 30s and early 40s that meets for games, movies, food and freedom as proposed by its members.
Women of First
The purposes of this group are caring, prayer, Bible study and fellowship. Programs of interest and spiritual growth for all women of the church, day and evening programs.
